La Niña

Today I learned that LA NIñA is a coupled ocean-atmosphere phenomenon that is the counterpart of El Niño as part of the broader El Niño-Southern Oscillation climate pattern. During a period of La Niña, the sea surface temperature across the equatorial Eastern Central Pacific Ocean will be lower than normal by 3–5 °C. In the United States, an episode of La Niña is defined as a period of at least 5 months of La Niña conditions. The name La Niña originates fromSpanish, meaning "the girl," analogous to El Niño meaning "the boy."
La Niña, sometimes informally called "anti-El Niño", is the opposite of El Niño, where the latter corresponds instead to a higher sea surface temperature by a deviation of at least 0.5 °C, and its effects are often the reverse of those of El Niño. El Niño is famous due to its potentially catastrophic impact on the weather along both the Chilean, Peruvian, New Zealand, and Australian coasts, among others. It has extensive effects on the weather in North America, even affecting the Atlantic Hurricane Season. La Niña is often, though not always, preceded by an El Niño.

Today, I learned that EL NIñO is the abnormal warming of surface ocean waters in the eastern tropical Pacific, is one part of what's called the Southern Oscillation (the see-saw pattern of reversing surface air pressure between the eastern and western tropical Pacific). When El Niño conditions last for many months, extensive ocean warming and the reduction in Easterly Trade winds limits upwelling of cold nutrient-rich deep water and its economic impact to local fishing for an international market can be serious.

I will apply my learning about EL NIñO in my daily activities in life, in at school.

Learning about EL NIñO is important because I will be more knowledgeable about the warm weather and I'll be ready when it happens.

On a larger scale, I will share my learnings to other people, students and to my friends &family for them to be also aware and ready if this it will happen and for us to know that this phenomenon will become dangerous and be serious if we will continue on contributing in global warming.

I need to know more about the causes & effects of EL NIñO so that I will be aware & more responsible in all of the things that I will do and their effects in my environment.

Today I learned that TROPICAL DEPRESSION is an organized system of clouds and thunderstorms with a defined closed surface circulation and maximum sustained winds of less than 34 knots (39 mph). It has no eye and does not typically have the organization or the spiral shape of more powerful storms.

I will apply my learnings about TROPICAL DEPRESSION in my daily activities in life.

Learning about TROPICAL DEPRESSION is important because by gathering facts/infos about it, can help us to be aware of the thins happening around us regarding this phenomenon.

On a larger scale, I will share my learning about this TROPICAL DEPRESSIONS to other people, student, to my friends and families for them to be also aware and understand this phenomenon and the weather.

I want to know more about the causes and possible effects of TROPICAL DEPRESSION because it let me understand the weather and the things that are happening in my surroundings.

As a steward of God's creation we should use everything he gave us wisely.

1.      I conserve water. Turn the faucet off when not in use.
2.      Conserve Electricity. I turn off all appliances that are not in use and I just use it if needed.
3.      I throw my garbages in proper place. In our school we segregate biodegradable from non-biodegradable.

Today, I learned that COLD FRONT is defined as the leading edge of a cooler mass of air, replacing (at ground level) a warmer mass of air, which lies within a fairly sharp surface trough of low pressure. It forms in the wake of an extratropical cyclone, at the leading edge of its cold air advection pattern, which is also known as the cyclone's dry conveyor belt circulation. It is developed by means of cooler and denser air wedges under the less-dense warm air, lifting it.

The cooler and denser air wedges under the less-dense warmer air, lifting it. This upward motion causes lowered pressure along the cold front and can cause the formation of a narrow line of showers and thunderstorms when enough moisture is present. On weather maps, the surface position of the cold front is marked with the symbol of a blue line of triangles/spikes (pips) pointing in the direction of travel.
A cold front's location is at the leading edge of the temperature drop off, which in an isotherm analysis would show up as the leading edge of the isotherm gradient, and it normally lies within a sharp surface trough. Cold fronts move faster than warm fronts and can produce sharper changes in weather. Since cold air is denser than warm air, it rapidly replaces the warm air preceding the boundary.:)

I will apply my learnings about this COLD FRONT in my daily activities,in school (for any lessons regarding this phenomenon),and preparing for any possible outcome of weather problems.

Learning about this COLD FRONT will help us to become aware, responsible and to understand what are the things that are happening around us.

On a larger scale, I will share my learnings about this COLD FRONT to other people & students for them to clearly understand and be aware of this phenomenon.

I want to know more about the causes & effects of COLD FRONT for me to become aware of the thing that may possibly happen around me.

Today I learned that MONSOON Rains are wind systems that influences large climatic regions and reverses direction seasonally.
This word is derived from an Arabic word “Mausim” which means season. It is traditionally defined as seasonal reversing wind caused by cyclic air movements by corresponding changes in precipitation. It occurs here in the Philippines by means of Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that occurs on May to October, and the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan that occurs on September to April. It is related to ITCZ because it makes the ITCZ move north.

I will apply my learning about MONSOON Rains in my daily life & in my studies. I'll always remember that its occurrence affects the Weather of the Philippines & other countries. And to other lessons related to this Earth’s phenomenon.

Learning about this phenomenon is important because it help us understand that it may affect or lives and daily activities and it also let us understand & know that it's occurrence is just normal.

On a larger scale, I will share my learnings about MONSOON Rains to other people, so that they will become aware and ready for the effects of this phenomenon. And for them to become informative about it, so they can also share it to others.

I need to learn more about the causes & effects of MONSOON Rains, so that I will become aware and be more responsible at times when it occur.

Entry no. 5
July 2-6, 2012

There are many Environmental Laws that helps to conserve and take care of our environment.

If we would just follow this laws our environment will be a clean and safe place to live in.

Rio de Janeiro launch a project to sustain our needs while leaving in a clean & safe Environment.

If this project will be launch all over the world then Earth will surely replenish & endure. It would be a better place and it will last long for the next generation.

To conserve energy and help mother earth, I:

  1. Closed all appliances that are not in use.
  2. Minimize Electricity usage/consumption.
  3. Turn the faucet off when not in use.
  4. Throw my garbage on proper place.

Mother Nature
Entry # 4
June 25-29, 2012

Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, Conserve Energy, Clean the surroundings, avoid illegal things like mining, quarrying, cyanide & dynamite fishing, coral bleaching etc., don't throw garbage here & there etc.

These are some terms to take care and protect Nature. But as a student or as a simple being what things could we possibly contribute for mother earth?

Good thing I do this week for our nature:

1.) I turned off and unplug all the appliances that are not in use. eg. cellphone & cam charger, electric fan, television, computer and laptop.

2.) Running water in the faucet that is not in use, I also turned that off (every drop counts)

3.) Charging the batteries of my cellphone and  digicam once a week.

4.) Minimizing the use of electricity & water.

5.) Donating plastic bottles to the higher year to be recycled and scratch papers.

You what can you do to help replenish and protect Mother Nature???

Movement of ITCZ

         Intertropical Convergence zone:

Intertropical Convergence Zone, what are these really?

Today I learned that Inter Tropical Convergence Zone, or ITCZ,  is the area encircling the Earth near the equator where winds originating in the northern and southern hemisphere come together.  It was originally identified from the 1920s to the 1940s as the "Intertropical Front" (ITF) ,and known by sailors as the "Doldrums". And it appears as a band of clouds, usually thunderstorms that encircle the globe near the equator.

I will apply my learnings about ITCZ to my daily activities in life,in preparing  for any possible weather problems, to my lessons that is somehow related to ITCZ and to the climate and weather of the Philippines.

Learning about this phenomena is very important because it help us understand the changes of temperature, weather, climate that is happening around us.

On a larger scale, I will share my learnings about ITCZ to others because they might not understand this phenomena clearly and for them to be aware of it.

I need to know more about the practices that I can do when I encounter this phenomena and the things that would make life easy in the times that ITCZ will occur.
